| SSgt. Covell was in Iraq serving his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom when his convoy, carrying fuel, was hit by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). He suffered burns on 42% of his body, including his face, hands, arms and legs. He has severe vein damage, nerve damage and has loss in range of motion in hands, arms and shoulder. As SSgt. Covell was recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center his dream began to take shape. SSgt. Covell understands all too well how important it is for our wounded heroes to get back to doing the hobbies they enjoyed before being deployed and being placed in harms way. It is his personal experience that led to the Injured Soldier Foundation being born. |

| It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote. |
