JULY JAMBOREE

FRIDAY:
The weekend began Friday night with the Reagons and Myers driving into town.  We all
gathered at the cabin and settled in by choosing rooms and unpacking.  Everyone was
introduced and their stories were shared on the back deck.  The children checked out the
beautiful setting and enjoyed the river that lay nestled at the back of the property.

Our host, Tony Covell thanked Dana Reagon, a veteran from Iraq and Ted Myer, a veteran of
Desert Storm and presented both honored guests with a challenge coin.  We left the families
around 11 p.m. to get some rest but we were later told that the families stayed up to 2 a.m.
talking and sharing life experiences.

SATURDAY:
Since Saturday was an open day for the families; lots of activities filled
the day.  Ted and Kathy Myer, Derek Reagon, and Tony Covell all headed out early for some
fishing.  Breakfast was served at 8:30 cooked by our volunteer Jill Jones.  The men enjoyed
some ORV riding and the children enjoyed the day at the beach.  The Myers' took in some
scenic driving and a Bar-B-Que ended the day on the back deck.  The families enjoyed the
night with a fire while the kids challenged the parents to eating the most s'mores.

SUNDAY:
Sunday began the day with Breakfast at Dagmar's Kozy Kitchen and a rafting adventure on
the Pine River donated graciously by
Pine River Paddlesports Center.  Stormy skies
threatened on our drive to the river and sure enough the rain came in shortly after we got on
the river.  Our trip on the river took about 4 hours and although we were soaked for about a
third of it, it didn't dampen our spirits or the great time we had.  We took three rafts out on
the river and many of us encountered a few banks along the way but luckily the only one who
fell overboard was Tony Covell, our gracious host so he got quite a bit of ribbing for being
the leader.  We stopped a couple of times, the first to get out of the rain, the second time to
cool off some in the river and collect some rocks.  We ended our day at the lake with a
picnic supper and more swimming for the children and sand castle building.  The Myers' had
a previous engagement on Monday so had to leave but they enjoyed their weekend away
from home.

MONDAY:
Monday was the day to pack and leave but not before the children got the chance to cook
the adults breakfast.

Our thanks to the Reagons and Myers, it was an honor to meet Ted and Dana and their
families.  I am grateful to all of them for letting us share their weekend.  Thanks to Daryl and
Jeaneen Galazen for the use of their chalet, Dagmar's Kozy Kitchen for Sunday Breakfast,
Pine River Paddlesports Center for the rafting experience, Jill Jones for donating her time
and cooking expertise, Traci Jones for donating and preparation of food for the weekend,
TLC photography for the pictures taken, and Operation Injured Soldiers for coordinating the
event.
